June 2, 2016: Valcarlos to Roncesvalles

I love stained glass, and here we have a massed battle scene–not usual for a church or chapel.
Our lodgings are comfortable, but old and beautiful.
The mists drift off the mountains.  You don’t want to be caught still on the mountain at night!
It was too cool to be able to enjoy sitting outside, but in high summer this must be a lovely spot to have a drink and enjoy the view.
In the mural, a Basque in traditional white clothes with red touches meets a pilgrim, while a modern pilgrim leans wearily against the wall.
