July 20: Santiago de Compostela to Madrid
A last visit to the CathedralEvery nook and cranny has something interesting. Here St. James’s cross is painted on a cockle shell worked into an angle at a corner of the cathedral.Round arches within arches within archesSide altars also richly decoratedThis photo better shows the colors in this corner of the cathedral, and the other cockle shells decorating the walls. The round windows set into the arches, and the opening at the very top, all letting light flow down into the cathedral.Angel musicians accompany music in the cathedralSt. James, all shining gold, and standing over a cockle shell.I can’t resist doorways, even simple ones. And especially not more elaborate ones.
